A striking vintage Postmodern table lamp, circa 1980s, combining highly polished chrome with a substantial thick glass diffuser in a beautifully architectural composition.
The lamp features a sculptural stepped circular chrome base, slender column and broad domed saucer shade, dramatically accented by a thick clear glass disk. The naturally pale aqua-green edge of the glass creates one of the lamp’s most distinctive features: when illuminated, the perimeter captures the light and appears to form a luminous floating halo beneath the mirrored dome.
Its streamlined geometry, reflective surfaces and dramatic interplay between chrome, glass and light embody the sophisticated Space Age and Art Deco Revival influences of 1980s Postmodern design. At 16 inches tall, it has an unusually strong sculptural presence while remaining perfectly proportioned for a console, side table, desk or bedside setting.
The lamp presents beautifully and is fully functional. The chrome retains a brilliant mirror finish with light age-appropriate surface wear, including fine scratches to the upper dome, as shown in the detailed photographs. These do not detract significantly from the overall presentation.
